The current book display at the corner of the Travel Information Area focuses on Osaka, Japan’s second largest city, and kissaten, Japan’s characteristic tearooms or coffee houses.
Kissaten developed in Japan in the 20th century and now continue to preserve a fashionable Shōwa-era (1926-1989), retro look and feel. Their distinctive coffee and foods still enjoy wide popularity, nowhere more so than in Osaka, which boasts the largest number of kissaten in Japan.
Alongside a wide range of books introducing the unique cultures of Osaka and kissaten, visitors can also enjoy videos introducing Osaka and Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
Kissaten are also featured in the exhibition Looks Delicious! Exploring Japan’s food replica culture, on display in the Gallery until 16 February 2025.
