A talisman of good fortune, the daruma is a symbol of perseverance. Purchased with their white eyes unpainted, to make use of the daruma the owner must paint one eye black whilst making a wish or envisioning an objective. It is only when the wish or goal has finally come to fruition that the second eye can be painted black.
