About Sailor Pen
The Sailor Pen Company was founded in 1911 by Sakata Kyugoro in Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture, and was the first company to domestically manufacture fountain pens in Japan. In 1926, the Imperial Prince Hirohito visited the factory in an effort to encourage domestic industry, which greatly raised the profile of the company across the country. The Sailor fountain pen is renowned for both the beautiful aesthetic of its crafted body with its gold nib and the functionality of an uncompromised writing experience. In 2008, when the G8 Summit was held in Hiroshima City, the leaders of member states were each given a lacquered Sailor fountain pen as a gift.
