Take a journey through 1,300 years of master carpentry in a series of guided tours celebrating the opening weekend of Japan House London’s new exhibition The Carpenters’ Line: Woodworking Heritage in Hida Takayama.
The tours are led by exhibition curator and Japan House London Programming Director Simon Wright alongside special guests from Japan. These include key members of the exhibition curatorial and creative team, Yamada Yū (method Inc.) and design unit SPREAD.
During a tour which reveals behind-the scenes insights into the exhibition curation process, guests can take a closer look at Hida’s extraordinary craftworking legacy from the rich natural resources of Hida’s forests, the tools and techniques developed to work them, to the involvement of Hida craftsmanship in furniture design around the world today.
Each tour will last 45 minutes and will begin in front of the Gallery on Japan House London’s Lower Ground floor promptly at the start time.
