In conjunction with Pride Month, Japan House London is delighted to present talk event with Tokoi Miyuki, the director of ‘Zero As You Are’ and Sky, whose story is featured in the documentary.

‘Zero as You Are’, filmed over a period of nine years, offers an intimate insight into several turning points in the life of Sky, a young person from Kawasaki on a journey of self-discovery

Assigned female at birth, Sky was diagnosed with gender dysphoria at the age of 13. Aged 20, Sky became the youngest person in Japan to undergo gender affirming surgery and to change their officially registered gender in the family registry. However, this has not concluded Sky’s self-exploration as Sky seeks to find a place in the world beyond the binary.

During this talk event with Tokoi Miyuki and Sky, the speakers discuss the challenges and rewards of the nine-year-long process of making the documentary while Sky shares comments on encounters with inspirational mentors and insights into personal and professional development.
