Explore Japan's 'Living Art' Island in Exhibition at Japan House London Opening May 2022. Symbiosis: Living Island explores the large-scale art and architecture project, Inujima 'Art House Project', that is slowly transforming the Japanese island of Inujima. Wednesday 26 January 2022: From a ground-breaking nature-inspired art and landscape project transforming the natural environment of the island of Inujima, through to the kumihimo braid-work artisans pushing the boundaries of historic craft, the forthcoming exhibitions at Japan House London in 2022-2023 explore a truly diverse range of themes.

From 6 February 2021, Japan House London hosts MAKING NUNO Japanese Textile Innovation from Sudō Reiko, a brand-new exhibition adaptation presenting work by internationally acclaimed Japanese textile designer Sudō Reiko, with projection installations designed by the exhibition’s artistic director, Saitō Seiichi of Panoramatiks (formerly Rhizomatiks Architecture).

Japan House London launches a free virtual tour of the hit Architecture for Dogs exhibition - the first time in the exhibition’s acclaimed global tour that it has been made available online for people to ‘paw’ over in the comfort of their own home. Explore 16 architectural designs specially created by world renowned architects and designers, each made with a different dog breed in mind.

From 19 September 2020, Japan House London hosts the internationally acclaimed Architecture for Dogs exhibition. Featuring 16 different designs by world-class architects, each exhibit captures the quality of the relationship between humans and their four legged friends. Japan House London will be the first destination in Europe to exhibit Architecture for Dogs with both a physical and virtual experience for guests.

Japan House London announces that globally renowned UK architect Asif Khan is creating a brand-new design entitled “I see you !” becoming the 16th designer to join the global Architecture for Dogs project. The exhibition launches at Japan House London on Saturday 19 September 2020 and runs until 10 January 2021.

Japan House hosts its first digital art exhibition from 21 November 2019 – 22 March 2020. WOW: City Lights and Woodland Shade presents two immersive installations by visual design studio WOW. In Tokyo Light Odyssey guests are surrounded by a dramatic, 360-degree omnidirectional movie of urban Tokyo; while POPPO offers a digital encounter with the folk crafts of rural Yamagata Prefecture in Japan's north.

The This is MANGA – the Art of URASAWA NAOKI exhibition (5 June – 28 July 2019) at Japan House provided an immersive encounter with the popular art form of manga through focusing on the work of much-loved artist Urasawa Naoki.

Running 5 April - 19 May 2019, this exhibition revealed the Japanese appreciation of colour and sensitivity to the changing seasons, shining a spotlight on Yoshioka Sachio and his daughter Sarasa, guardians of the tradition of natural dyeing.

From 16 January - 17 March 2019, Prototyping in Tokyo: Illustrating design-led innovation explored the potential of prototypes to act as a link between cutting-edge technology and society, offering us a glimpse into the structures and textures of the future. The exhibition showcased the work of Professor Yamanaka Shunji and his team at the University of Tokyo.

The Biology of Metal: Metal Craftsmanship in Tsubame-Sanjo exhibition at Japan House London put the spotlight on the extraordinary skills of ordinary people. The exhibition presented the innovative craftsmanship of some of Japan’s most talented metalworkers between 6 September – 28 October 2018.

SOU FUJIMOTO: FUTURES OF THE FUTURE, was the inaugural exhibition at the Japan House London Gallery. The exhibition, alongside Architecture is Everywhere - a display in The Shop demonstrating how architecture can be found within everyday objects - explored the innovative works of one of Japan’s most influential contemporary architects, Sou Fujimoto.
