Ainu Stories

The Ainu are an indigenous people primarily residing in Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost prefecture, with distinct cultural roots traceable to the 13th century. Historically, members of the Ainu community have often not been able to fully express their distinct culture, however a movement to celebrate and sustain the Ainu language, textiles, crafts and traditions continues to gather pace.
