Chadō Demonstrations by Tankokai UK

Chado Demonstrations by Tankokai UK

Discover chadō, the Japanese Way of Tea, in a series of monthly demonstrations at Japan House London presented by Tankokai UK.

Chadō is a Japanese tradition with more than 400 years of history with many practitioners not only in Japan, but all over the world. Considered a way to socialise, this act of preparing and serving matcha tea to guests is a practice that involves a deep attention to single movements and gestures, an appreciation of the craft objects and their role in the process and an awareness of the surrounding environment.

Demonstrations are held monthly by chadō practitioners from Tankokai UK, an association connected to Urasenke, one of the largest tea schools in Japan. Each event offers guests an opportunity to experience first-hand the values and significance of the Way of Tea in everyday life. During each event there is also the possibility to ask questions to the practitioners and enjoy a bowl of matcha along with chagashi sweets.

About Tankokai UK

Tankokai UK is formed mainly by practitioners of the Way of Tea. The UK Association activities started in 2009 with chadō presentations in schools. In 2011, Tankokai UK was officially launched in London by Urasenke XV Grand Master Genshitsu Sen. Tankokai Associations can be found around the world. Members support the Urasenke activities in their communities as well as deepen their knowledge of chadō through study groups and training.
