Obata Taku
小畑 多丘
In a year which celebrates the potential of Japan’s capital city, Tokyo, Japan House London is delighted to display the new work of artist and break dancer Obata Taku from Friday 28 February to Monday 6 April 2020 made during his Artist’s Residency at City & Guilds of London Art School.
A graduate from Tokyo University of the Arts (Tokyo Geidai), Obata Taku explores the tension and dynamism of the human body taking inspiration from his background as a B-BOY. His work investigates the relationship between the human body and clothes through life-size, hand-carved wooden figures that express space and power.
Japan House London hosts a series of events to accompany the display in The Shop:
28 Feb 2020: Display Opening at The Stand
11 Mar 2020: B-boy Sculpture: Talk by Obata Taku
14 Mar 2020: Capturing Movement: Live Drawing by Obata Taku
