About the Maker:
NOMIKAJI TASAI
Founded in 1975, Nomikaji Tasai manufactures woodworking tools such as chisels, planes and pointed knives which are used in the construction of buildings including Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines. The workshop is managed by a father and son who receive custom orders for specialized tools from carpenters across Japan. The entire manufacturing process of the tools, from casting the steel to sharpening edges, is carried out at their workshop in Sanjo City. In 2014, founder Tasai Akio was acknowledged as a Master of Traditional Crafts by the Japanese government.
