The Retail Experience Assistant is an important part of the visitor-facing team. Through providing exceptional standards of customer service, you will ensure that all Japan House London guests in The Shop are welcomed warmly, encouraged to learn about and engage with the products and programming content, and have a safe and enjoyable visit.

You will:

  • Provide a five-star-level of customer service to visitors in The Shop and The Stand
  • Deliver sales through emparting knowledge and education about Japan to visitors
  • Enhance the experience of visitors in an animated, courteous and informed manner
  • Ensure that the Health and Safety Policy is adhered to by managing visitor flow, being alert to potential hazards, and responding to a variety of needs

We are looking for Retail associates with:

  • At least 3 years of experience of working in retail as a sales associate
  • Strong passion for and an understanding of Japanese culture and history would be an advantage
  • Experience of working in high-end retailer
  • High business standard English language skills are essential
  • High business standard Japanese language skills are advantageous but not essential
  • Exceptional standard of customer service through well-established and effective communication skills

You will need to be approachable, welcoming and attentive to the needs of all Japan House London visitors.

Work Environment:

  • Most duties carried out in Japan House public spaces
  • Work is arranged on a rolling rota organised at least 2 weeks in advance
  • Standard shifts are 8 hours per day, or 6 hours on Sunday
  • Rolling rota will include weekends and evenings, and bank holidays when the Shop is open
  • Additional after-hours project and event-related work may be required
  • We are looking for full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time (32 hours per week)
