Oho Kosuke is the Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Director of design company WOW inc., who collaborated with Japan House London for the WOW: City Lights and Woodland Shade exhibition.
He chose: 丁寧 ('tei nei': courteous, polite, thorough, kind)
"Since spending more time at home, I am seeing all those bits and pieces I would normally try not to notice and consequently, I find myself cleaning up and throwing away things I don't need. I start to think, my house has become a little more comfortable and that it is not so bad to be inside. The idea of ‘let’s live courteously’ reminds me of stories in women’s magazines, which makes me feel a little embarrassed. However, now more than ever, we need to live in a careful, kinder way. Since we have more time to ourselves, now we can take a closer look at our pace of life. Seizing this moment, by living more attentively, communicating more considerately and being mindful of our actions, could the world post-coronavirus become a gentler place, free of chaos? Let us first do what we can to live more carefully with kindness."

いつもより長い時間家にいるので、普段は見ないようにしていた雑な部分が気になり出し ついつい掃除をしたり要らないものを処分したりしている。気づくと家は少し快適になり中にいるのも悪くないかな、と思えてくる。「丁寧に暮らそう」なんて言うと女性誌の見出しのようでちょっと気恥ずかしさもあるが、今こそ丁寧に暮らすことが求められているのではないだろうか。いつもより時間にゆとりのある 今だからこそ自分の足元 を見つめ直すいい機会。これを機に それぞれが今までより少し丁寧な暮らしを、少し丁寧なコミュニケーションを、少し丁寧な行動を心がければ、アフターコロナは以前 よりも混乱 のない穏やかな世界になるのではないだろうか。
まずは自分の出来ることから丁寧にやっていこう。
