Masterclass: Inking Manga Patterns with Kubo Kiriko

As part of a series of online masterclasses focusses on the various stages of creating manga, internationally renowned manga-ka Kubo Kiriko discussed techniques applied to shade objects and backgrounds in manga.

This masterclass focussed on different types of line-based effects such as shūchū-sen (focus lines), tate-sen (vertical lines), nawa-ami (rope net), and kake-ami (cross-hatching). Kubo Kiriko provided an explanation of the context and use for each pattern as well as a short demonstration on how to obtain them on paper, while participants were invited to ask her questions and advice throughout the event.
