Artist Tomozawa Kotao on how she developed her distinctive approach

Tomozawa has been creating art since she was a very young child. Taking inspiration from Francis Bacon’s ‘strong physical sensation of pain’, she aims for a similar level of expression in her unsettling, distorted works.

Using organic materials and even slime in her works, Tomozawa creates art which reflects ‘the absurdity [she feels] in the midst of the everyday’.

Find out more about her approach in this video interview.
